Scaling back.

Hello there, I have recently come to the conclusion that baking bread is awesome and frustrating and not worth my time. I would love to continue baking pies for anyone who desires them. As the season continues I will vary the fruit. Right now I'm working with rhubarb and apple. Please e-mail me if you would like a pie for $12! I wish I could continue the bread but I love making bread and it was not fun for me to try to do it so large scale.

Tomorrow!

Saturday April, 18th I will be baking up some sample of the 10 grain loaf as well as whole wheat sandwich bread($5.00) and an onion walnut loaf($5.50). I'll be heading around the neighborhood again in the afternoon with the little red wagon (borrowed from Logan and Oliver next door).

We are pretty awesome.

I just got back from my trip around the neighborhood with my little red wagon, that was wonderful! It was so great to meet all of you and I just have to say that this neighborhood is pretty splendid. Everyone was super receptive and friendly. I'm looking forward to doing it again next week.

Good Neighbors.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of baking a few loaves at Good Neighbor Pizza with Jeff Ray. Their oven is quite a bit larger than ours and it's stone! So exciting. The stone bakes things so evenly, it's wonderful!

Now I just have to convince them to let me bake there several mornings a week. I'll keep you posted on that one.

Developing flavors.

Another note, the flavor of the sourdough starter (from the Tassajara Bread Book) is developing quite nicely. I made a few loaves yesterday and got quite excited about the potential (I'll let it get really good for you guys!)

How to order...

Every week, I will post your options on this very website. For example...this coming Wednesday(18th) through Wednesday(25th) I am offering...

-Onion Walnut (torpedo, $5.50)
-Honey Whole Wheat (sandwich, $5.00)
-Nutty, multi-grain (torpedo, $5.50)
-Molasses-Oatmeal (sandwich, $5.00)

Also available...
Apple-Cranberry Pie ($18)
Brownies topped with Filberts ($2 each at approximately 3"x3", or a pan for $11, approximately 6 brownies)

Requests are welcome. Dream it up and I'll whip it up!

There is a two day maximum turn around on orders, if I get it done more quickly, you'll receive it ASAP!

Please e-mail orders to WoodlawnBaking@gmail.com two days before you would like to have them.

It's organic! (mostly)

I am using all organic flour. Some of the other ingredients, such as the 10 grain cereal used for the multi-grain breads, are harder to get organic. I am doing most of my shopping at Bob's Red Mill directly. I have worked on organic farms for years and feel strongly about it, I'll do what I can!

Getting started.

Here we go.

So, I have begun, small (like my budget). I am baking in our home kitchen, though I have been talking with Jeff at Good Neighbor Pizza about getting in there and using their stone pizza oven for bread (that would be so sweet!)

For those of you interested I do have my food handler's card, so I'm keeping it sanitary.

More samples!

This Wednesday, the 18th, I will be attending the Woodlawn Neighborhood meeting from 7-8:30 with samples! Come on down to the meeting and try some bread and put in your order. Home delivery is available!

Samples, Samples, Samples

This Thursday, March 12th starting at 7:30pm your neighbors will be exposing their talents. Nikki Kress is showing her paintings, Chris Beck (also of the Big Green House) will be sharing his guitar and harmonica skills, and I will be offering samples of the bread and other baked goods that I will be offering for delivery starting March 23rd. Come on out and enjoy some free entertainment and mingle with your neighbors!
Also, look for samples at the neighborhood meeting on Wednesday, March 18.
